1. The information on this website is general only
The website at scgastro.com.au (Website) is operated by Sunshine Coast Gastroenterology Pty Ltd (ACN 651 805 739, ABN 30 651 805 739) trading as Sunshine Coast Gastroenterology (we, us, our or the Practice).
The Website provides general information about our doctors, the procedures we perform, the conditions we treat, and how to access our services.
The information published on the Website is general in nature. It is provided for educational and informational purposes only. It is not, and is not intended to be, medical, clinical or health advice for any individual.
The Website is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified health practitioner. The information should never be used as the basis for a decision about your health or care. Always consult your treating doctor or another suitably qualified health practitioner before acting on anything you read on the Website.
2. If you are experiencing a medical emergency
Call 000 immediately or attend your nearest hospital emergency department.
Do not use the Website, our contact forms, email, fax or social media to seek urgent medical assistance. These channels are not monitored continuously and we cannot guarantee a timely response.
If you are experiencing any of the following, treat it as an emergency:

3. Information accuracy and currency
We take reasonable care to ensure information on the Website is accurate when published. However:
(a) medical knowledge changes, and information may become out of date; (b) clinical guidelines — including those of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the National Health and Medical Research Council, and Cancer Council Australia — are periodically updated; (c) the right care for any particular patient depends on factors specific to that patient that are not — and cannot be — known to a website; and (d) we cannot warrant that all information on the Website reflects the most current evidence at the time you read it.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, currency, reliability or fitness for any particular purpose of the information on the Website.
4. Outcomes vary
Any reference on the Website to clinical outcomes, procedures, recoveries or experiences is general. Individual outcomes depend on a wide range of factors — including a patient's age, anatomy, medical and family history, the nature and stage of the underlying condition, comorbidities, medications, and adherence to clinical advice — and may vary materially from those described.
No representation, statement, claim or image on the Website should be read as a representation that you, or any individual patient, will achieve any particular result. This Disclaimer is published in accordance with the AHPRA Guidelines for advertising a regulated health service, which require advertisers not to create an unreasonable expectation of beneficial treatment (s.133 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Queensland) Act 2009).
5. Hyperlinks to external content
The Website may contain hyperlinks to information published by external organisations, including:

These links are provided for your convenience. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, currency, security or privacy practices of any external website. The presence of a link does not constitute our endorsement of the linked organisation.
6. Patient information factsheets
The Website provides patient-information factsheets prepared by GESA and other external organisations. These factsheets are general patient-information resources and do not replace the specific advice of your treating doctor. The information in those factsheets is the responsibility of the publishing organisation.
7. Third-party content and reviews
In accordance with section 133 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law and the AHPRA Guidelines for advertising a regulated health service:
(a) We do not publish patient testimonials about clinical aspects of our services. (b) Patient comments about clinical aspects of regulated health services are prohibited in our advertising under the National Law. (c) Any patient reviews on third-party platforms that we do not control are not part of our advertising. We do not republish, quote, share, or otherwise engage with such reviews in a way that uses them to promote our services. (d) If you believe any content on the Website does not comply with the National Law or the AHPRA Guidelines, please contact us at admin@scgastro.com.au.
8. Practitioner registration
Each medical practitioner associated with Sunshine Coast Gastroenterology is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and holds specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in gastroenterology and hepatology, as applicable.
The current practitioners associated with the Practice are:
Dr Vikas Gupta — Gastroenterologist & Interventional Endoscopist
Dr Lauren White — Gastroenterologist
Dr Tehara Wickremeratne — Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist
Dr Chris Kia — Gastroenterologist & Interventional Endoscopist
Dr Deepu David — Gastroenterologist & Interventional Endoscopist

Registration details for each practitioner can be verified on the AHPRA Register of Practitioners at ahpra.gov.au.
Gastroenterologists are not surgeons. The endoscopic procedures we perform are not "surgery" within the meaning of section 115A of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Queensland) Act 2009. We do not use the title "surgeon" in connection with our doctors.
9. No practitioner-patient relationship through the Website
Reading the Website, contacting us through a Website form, or sending us an email does not create a practitioner-patient relationship between you and any doctor of the Practice. A practitioner-patient relationship is established only when you are formally accepted as a patient and the doctor commences clinical care.
10. Fees and informed financial consent
Information about fees on the Website is general and indicative only. Actual fees depend on the complexity and duration of your consultation or procedure, the relevant Medicare item numbers, your private health insurance arrangements, and the fees charged by independent third parties (anaesthetists, pathologists, the hospital). Patients are advised to contact us via phone or email for information about fees, that is specific to them.
In accordance with the Australian Medical Association Informed Financial Consent guide, we will provide a written estimate of out-of-pocket costs before any procedure is booked. Final costs may vary based on the procedure performed.
11. Intellectual property
Content on the Website is owned by the Practice or used under licence. See our Website Terms and Conditions of Use for the licence terms that apply to your use of the Website.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject always to any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) that cannot be excluded:
(a) the Website and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranty of any kind; (b) we exclude all liability for any loss or damage of any kind arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Website or its content; and (c) where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited to the resupply of the relevant content or the cost of having it resupplied.
For the avoidance of doubt, this limitation applies to your use of the Website. It does not exclude or limit any liability that we or any of our doctors may have to you arising from the provision of clinical care to you as a patient. The clinical care of patients is governed by separate professional, ethical and legal obligations.
See clause 10 of our Website Terms and Conditions of Use for the full limitation of liability.
13. Accessibility
We are committed to making the Website accessible to as many people as possible. We have endeavoured to design the Website to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please contact us at admin@scgastro.com.au and we will do our best to provide the information in an alternative format.
14. Changes to this Disclaimer
